What is Sateen Cotton? Making Weaves with our Hero Cotton

At Amurelle one of our missions is to simplify how you buy bedding. There is nothing more confusing than browsing aisles of plastic covered bedding and becoming overwhelmed by choice and try to decide what's high quality and what's not!

We aim to eliminate this confusion by offering only the best cotton duvet covers, fitted sheets and pillowcases with what we deem to be the best 'weave' available. How the threads in your bedding have been woven is the factor that has the biggest impact on how your bedding feels, looks and lasts and therefore how you sleep.

The main types of weave available are percale cotton and sateen cotton - the difference is in how they are woven. Learn why we've chosen a sateen weave for our Hero Cotton bed sheets below.

Why is great about Sateen Cotton?

Sateen cotton feels buttery soft and is extremely smooth to the touch as well as being temperature regulating. We have added a step by garment washing our sateen cotton to ensure it is doubly soft and can be popped onto your bed straight away - you can also sleep soundly in the knowledge that your bedding won't shrink or lose shape after many washes.

The good news is that there is fundamentally no difference between percale cotton and sateen cotton and the only difference is how they look and feel.

Sateen cotton has a slightly heavier drape than percale cotton, meaning it feels warmer against your skin and also takes less effort to iron and get stubborn wrinkles out of.

How is Sateen Cotton made?

A sateen weave uses a ‘one thread under, three threads over’ pattern of construction, whereas percale cotton is woven with a 'one under, one over' pattern. The result is a unique finish that allows sateen cotton bedding to be extra durable while being extremely soft and having a smooth appearance. It also makes it easier to wash and iron - bonus!
